Yosef Dovid Rothbart was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Oak Park Michigan. After completing high-school in Oak Park, he attended Yeshivas Beis Yosef and Mir (Brooklyn) before going to Israel to study in Yeshivas Kodshim (Rav Tzvi Kaplan). Upon marrying Miriam Spiro of Toronto in 2010 (in the BAYT), the couple moved to Lakewood where Yosef Dovid learned in Beth Medrash Govoha and studied shatnez testing. In 2012, the Rothbarts moved to Thornhill and Joined the Thornhill Kollel and the BAYT community.
Yosef Dovid currently leads the Beth Medrash minyan in the BAYT and gives the daily Daf along with other classes in the BAYT and other places. During the week, he works as the rabbinic administrator for COR’s Halacha Institute, where he helps structure business vis-à-vis Shabbos and ribbis; is involved in ADR (alternative dispute resolution); and reviews wills and other documentation for halachic purposes. He checks shatnez out of his house as a hobby and enjoys building eruvin in camps and cottage country.
